چکیده

Abstrac t Pulsed eddy current (PEC) is a new technique of non-destructive material evaluation (NDE). In comparison with other eddy current techniques, PEC uses pulsed excitation that is characterized by wide frequency content and thus the response carries more complex information about a tested object. PEC method is used in many NDE common applications such as inspection of defects, measurement of conductivity and estimation of material thickness. This article deals with the conventional and the pulsed eddy testing method as a new trend in electromagnetic nondestructive evaluation of conductive materials. Numerical simulations as well as selected experimental results are carried out to study correlations between the driving and the response signals regarding the defect classification. The gained numerical and experimental results are presented and discussed in the paper.

Non-Destructive Techniques Based on Eddy Current Testing

Non-destructive techniques are used widely in the metal industry in order to control the quality of materials. Eddy current testing is one of the most extensively used non-destructive techniques for inspecting electrically conductive materials at very high speeds that does not require any contact between the test piece and the sensor. This paper includes an overview of the fundamentals and main...

A Gradient-Field Pulsed Eddy Current Probe for Evaluation of Hidden Material Degradation in Conductive Structures Based on Lift-Off Invariance

Coated conductive structures are widely adopted in such engineering fields as aerospace, nuclear energy, etc. The hostile and corrosive environment leaves in-service coated conductive structures vulnerable to Hidden Material Degradation (HMD) occurring under the protection coating. It is highly demanded that HMD can be non-intrusively assessed using non-destructive evaluation techniques. In lig...

Wavelet based signal analysis of pulsed eddy current signals

This paper deals with response signals processing in eddy current non-destructive testing. Non-sinusoidal excitation is utilized to drive eddy currents in a conductive specimen. The response signals due to a notch with variable depth are calculated by numerical means. The signals are processed in order to evaluate the depth of the notch. Wavelet transformation is used for this purpose. Obtained...

Using a Mouse Pointer as a Positioning Device in Eddy Current Testing

− The use of Eddy currents is a well-known non-destructive technique used in the characterization of cracks in conductive non-magnetic materials. In this paper some experimental and finite element modelling tests with a new probe installed in a mouse pointer device connected to a PC are reported. This probe combines good sensitivity performances at low frequencies by using a giant magnetoresist...
